Learning Specialist Reflection

Hello everyone! I am currently taking my second course for my technology specialist endorsement. Throughout each week, I learn new methods, learning styles, and technology to implement within my classroom! Within EDU777, I am developing a technology tool plan to use for my classroom.

As mentioned in my previous posts, I teach 1st grade dual in a school outside of Chicago. Dual language programs are relatively new within most districts. Although dual language programs are a great opportunity to get students enrolled to learn a new language, many teachers lack resources to help their students. Often times, I need to re-write curriculum and lessons to meet the needs of my students, but also meet the requirements of the dual program. In addition, many resources that are out there for teachers to use for Spanish classrooms do not translate well and need to be re-written. Overall, it can get both overwhelming and frustrating. Nevertheless, I am very grateful to have found great resources such as Epic! and MyOn to introduce to my students. Both apps give students dozens of digital books that they can read or be read to! Throughout my process, I have explored many resources and tech tools to use in my classroom. I want to ensure my students are building Spanish oracy and implementing technology throughout the way. I am very passionate about my topic and do believe it has potential to be something great! 
I am very passionate about technology and implementing it in the classroom environment. Technology is growing and it is growing fast! Each and every day there is a new app to use and learn from. I believe the roles of a technology specialist is very important because they collaborate not only with educators over what tech tools can benefit classrooms, but also meet with administrators to ensure these tools can be introduced in the classroom to instruct and engage student learning. I hope to be sharing my overall project with you all soon!

Technology in my district As mentioned, my school district is 1:1 on iPads, however, they have not yet been distributed out for the students to use or take home. This week, for my education course, we are exploring the different frameworks and how we implement technology in the classroom. Because my district is 1:1, we try to be green and limit our printing. What is Classkick? This week, our focus for EDU 776 is to explore a tech tool that is not commonly used in our daily teaching. Throughout my first week of orientation, I was constantly hearing of the tech tool "Classkick". Many teachers in my district swear by it and use it daily. Although there is this huge hype about Classkick, I never really immersed myself in this tech tool. Thus, I decided to finally check it out for myself! Trends in Technology: STEM

STEM in the classroom, but why? So, now that we have technology in the classroom why not use it to implement STEM?! As mentioned in my previous post, this is my first year teaching. These past few days have been incredibly overwhelming, but oh so rewarding! Teaching in the 21st century means implementing STEM into the curriculum and school day.
